SUMMER READING/BUCK FOR BOOKS PROGRAM

By partnering with community schools, students and parents, the United Way of Sierra Vista & Cochise County are working to improve reading scores and ensure continued learning during the summer months for more than 900 county 1st graders at 19 schools with hopes of expanding even more this year. Teachers from each school order eight new books for each 1st grader based on their individual reading levels. The bill is paid in full through this program. The United Way of Sierra Vista & Cochise County also provides backpacks and a letter of explanation to accompany the books. Board members travel throughout the county at the end of each school year to help distribute books and backpacks to very appreciative students.
